Ezra Hays – Owner
Meet Ezra Hays
Ezra Hays is the founder and owner of Hays Contracting, a Rapid City-based contracting company he built from the ground up in 2011. What started as a passion for quality craftsmanship has grown into one of the Black Hills region’s trusted names in general and post-frame construction.
Born in small-town Ohio in 1985 and raised in a pastor’s home, Ezra learned early what it means to serve others and put down roots in a community — values that have defined both his personal life and his business ever since. He attended college in Mitchell, South Dakota, where he met his wife, Carmen. Together they have built something far bigger than a business: after experiencing the heartbreak of losing their first child, Ezra and Carmen opened their home as foster parents, welcoming roughly 70 children over the years and adopting eight. They have been homeschooling for a decade, and their oldest recently graduated.
Beyond the job site, Ezra is deeply invested in his community. He volunteers in Christian youth programs on Native American Reservations, assists with building projects across South Dakota and Montana, served as captain at a local volunteer fire station, and spent seven years as president of his water association. He has also been active in South Dakota politics since he was a teenager.
At Hays Contracting, Ezra leads by example — with the work ethic, faith, and commitment to people that have defined every chapter of his life.
Ronald Hays – Business Manager
Meet Ron Hays
Ron Hays brings a rare combination of people-first leadership and steady operational know-how to his role as Business Manager at Hays Contracting. A proud native of Fairborn, Ohio, Ron made the move to the beautiful Black Hills of Rapid City four years ago alongside his wife, Rosy — and it’s safe to say the area suits them well.
Before stepping into the business world, Ron spent three remarkable decades serving as a pastor — a calling that shaped him in ways that go far beyond the pulpit. That foundation of faith, integrity, and genuine care for others is something he carries into every conversation and every decision he makes at Hays Contracting.
In his role as Business Manager, Ron keeps the operational heartbeat of the company strong, ensuring that the trust and quality customers experience on the job site is matched every step of the way behind the scenes.
Away from the office, Ron is a man of deep faith, an enthusiastic traveler, and — above all — someone who treasures time with family and friends. Those who know him will tell you: what you see is what you get, and that’s exactly why he’s such an asset to the Hays Contracting team.
